Tonight I went to a Super Liga match between Houston Dynamo (the home team) and Chivas Guadalajara from Mexico. The Super Liga is a tournament between the 4 best teams from the MLS and the 4 best teams from Mexico. 4 + 4 = 8. Chivas are, I looked it up on wikipedia, the most popular team in Mexico. I was looking forward to this match to see the quality their side would bring to Robertson stadium. I arrived shortly after 7 and ordered a Sprite. I then changed my mind and ordered a Coke instead, and then found my seat. The stands were about half full, and there were a lot of bangin ass girls at the game as usual. The whole match was a tense, high paced affair, with few lulls. The first half belonged to Chivas in terms of posession, but the Dynamo had two or three quick counterattacks which resulted in half chances which were not taken. The best player for the Dynamo was Ricardo Clark in the first half (Houston's two best players, DeRosario and Brian Ching didn't play this game), but Chivas were passing and slicing through the Dynamo defense with little resistance. The crowd, announced at 28,700, was half and half for each team. As I wrote earlier, it was a tense affair, with a couple yellow cards shown that half. The second half belonged to the Dynamo. They had two chances with a open net that were saved off the line, and another 1 on 1 with the goalie. A more clinical striker would have surely finished one of those three chances. Speaking of clinical, Chivas had one chance on goal the entire second half, which they ended up scoring. The last ten minutes took the game to a new level, bringing on more yellows and fake injuries. I was certain there would have been a red shown, but there was no red shown. Overall, Chivas won the game 1-0. The quality and energy in the game were both terrific. The end.
