Now, much is being made of Tiger Woods winning the US Open and how now he needs knee surgery and will be out for the rest of the year. Much is being made of his heroics, but for me, it's nothing. I'm expected to play when I'm not 100% everyday. My line of profession is writing, and even when I'm not at optimal condition, I still have to get through it and win. For example, one time my senior year second semester, I was taking this greek philosophy class and I had to write an 8 page paper on Kant. I started at 11 pm the night before and the essay was due at 9 AM the next day. Like Tiger and his knee, I was high as fuckin shit and my thoughts were impaired. I took a deep breath and reminded myself of why I was in college in the first place, about how I was going to receive a great education and one day inspire a nation. I wanted to pass the out right there in the computer lab. But like Tiger, I had to use my incredible will and focus to write the essay. Unlike Tiger, I didn't win and instead got a B- in the class. But you don't see me on the cover of SI talking about how brave I was. Point being, people everyday no matter who you are have to do things when they are not 100%, like writing essays stoned. I ain't stoned right now but I'm kind of drunk, but here I am anyway.
